Short Film: Lost Along The Way
Back before I left the UK for Kuala Lumpur I had been working as the cinematographer on a short dramatic film called ‘Lost Along The Way’. OverĀ the August bank holiday we’d spent 3 days filming inside a charity shop where most of the story’s action takes place.
A few days after I got back to the UK the director and IĀ reconvened with one of the principle actors to shoot the other location interiors and exteriors.
This half of the shoot was completely different from the first half of the shoot. There were advantages and disadvantages to each scenario. For the first half of the shoot we had more crew so more helping hands. The second half of the shoot was a little more relaxed but we had to perform double duties in sound and in setting up the lighting ourselves. One thing that I personally missed was having an Assistant Director – someone keeping track of time and who moves things along – they’re handy people.
Once shooting was over so began the long and arduous process of putting it all together. I was involved in the sound mixing, the music and the grading of the film – many, many weeks of intense scrutiny going over everything with a fine-tooth comb. It was a lot of hard work but great to have worked with actors and crew on a short film.
