Filming a rock band with a crew of one
Filming a live performance with a crew of one. What could possibly go wrong?
This was my second time filming a music performance for the band Fireroad. Like last time this was a low / no-budget production so I decided to go one better than last time – or one worse depending on your point of view – and film this with a crew of 1 – me.
Between the last performance and this one I’d acquired a GoPro Hero which I was keen to try out so I set that up at the back of the stage aimed on the drummer who always gives a dynamic performance.
Because I knew the band and I knew that the singer plays guitarĀ I was able to set up a static camera on a tripod focussed where I knew the singer would be for most of the gig – at the microphone.
That left me to roam around with a third camera to try and capture what I could during the performance. I really like how this video turned out and just goes to show what you can do in a worst case scenario being a crew of one.
Credit must also be given to Jon Constantine of Op:eC Studios who did an amazing job of recorded the sound of this live gig – it helped enormously with the final product.
